Wildlife

I returned this weekend to the national wildlife refuge in Beltsville with the hopes of capturing fall colors in peaceful setting.  The leaves hadn’t quite changed yet, but the place was still very serene.

Unfortunately, some of the best vistas in the refuge are on the other side of one of the refuge’s lakes.  I say the other side because it’s a side you cat access due to the fact that migrant birds have made it their home.   After my visit in January I was hoping I could get over there. However, it would seem like in my two trips to the refuge I’ve caught the beginning and the end of the bird’s time there.

If you are looking for something to do next weekend, I’d definitely recommend this as a spot for foliage, as all the leaves should be changed by then.

Also of note: I apologize for yesterday’s missed post.  I was away and was unable to put up a picture.

Tennis Courts

On Saturday while people were flooding out of the football game in College Park,  the sky had taken on a very interesting shade of yellow.  It could be the result of the weird weather patterns we’ve had lately.  Or it could be because of the massive stadium lights, but either way it made for a neat effect.

Byrd in the Air

After taking last week’s picture of Norman Lane’s statue, I went to a building in Silver Spring where a few friends live.  They were nice enough to bring me to their roof to take some shots.   We were a little surprised to see that Byrd Stadium on the UMD campus was so clearly visible on the horizon.

As a side note, some MDP visitors may recognize the apartments in be background as the former residence of  an MDP photographer.

Maryland Basketball

The Terps play their first game in the NCAA tournament today so this picture of the center of the court from Cole Field House, which is currently on display at the Comcast Center, seemed appropriate.

Center for Learning and Technology

This building is the Center for Learning and Technology on the Bowie State campus.    I didn’t know much about it when I took the picture, but the new looking building was intriguing so I took it’s picture and resarched it later.  There’s nothing terribly interesting that came up about the building but I did find an article with a nice summary of it:

Capitol College

This satellite dish is on the grounds of Capitol College, a school largely dedicated to technology related fields.  Their campus in Prince Georges county contains quite a few academic buildings, like the new one in the background here, and five dorm buildings.  The majority of students at the college are correspondents. (which I’m told is an out of date term and should be replaced with ”enrolled online”)  I’d think it would be nice to know as a student online that there’s a very nice and extremely up to date campus out there to visit.

Inside Patuxent Research Refuge

Here’s a shot from inside the patuxent reasearch reguge’s visitor center.  Each of these lighted glass displays contains a diarama featuring birds or other wildlife that the refuge has worked with or which is endangered.  I thought that these displays were very well thought out and informational. The entire area was also extremely asthetically pleasing with these lighted columns in the otherwise dark room.   There are a few older exhibits there as well as many geared towards children.
