Western Farm

We don’t have the massive square and flat plots of land that the midwest has.    The plots are often  irregularly spaced, Even on the eastern shore, where the land is flat and ample, you’ll still have oddly shaped plots with diagonal roads cutting through fields or a random river running in betwwen two farms.    In western Maryland farmers are constrained by topography as much as by historic land grants or property transactions, and the combination leads to some interesting farmscapes.

Drane

MDP took a trip to Western Maryland and filled it’s photo coffers with lots of new material this weekend.

Today we feature a picture of the Drane House,  the 0ldest standing structure in Garrett County.  Though it’s been though some restorations and reconstruction, the house was originally built in 1800. It sits next to the town of Accident Md.

Deeep Creek 2

Here’s another shot of Deep Creek from Bryan, this time without the fog.   Deep Creek Lake is Maryland’s largest lake, and it’s largest body of contained water.  As you know, Maryland has no natural lakes,  so this deep lake with 68 miles of shoreline is actually man-made.
