Memorial

As it’s almost memorial day, it seemed like a good time to show some of the pictures I have from the various war memorials across the state.   Not necessarily a memorial, we are going to start with a  picture dedicated to the veterans in Brusnwick MD.

Jumbotron

Do you remember when it was called the Jumbotron?  I suppose Sony has left the novelty screen business by now.

Buffalo Creek and Gauley

You probably knew that MDP has a bit of curiosity towards trains.  In the process of checking up on a daily train blog I came across this article about an obscure railroad in West Virginia.   Then… in the middle of the article I realized that I had a picture from one of the engines of that railroad as that engine currently sits in front of the Gaithersburg train station.   I featured it’s inner workings  in this post.

Alco

Here’s your Friday cliffhanger post about trains.  I actually have a story to tell about this particular engine so that will come on Monday.

Golf

Took this shot at sunset at Sligo Creek golf course in Silver Spring.   As the course was losing money, the planning commission was considering shutting down the 9 hole course.  I believe a shut down is still possible but for now, it’s still operating.

Kensington

This lovely street scene is pretty typical on a weekend in Kensington.  The town just north of Chevy Chase and Silver Spring is home to a number of different antique shops and boutique stores.  The photo is scanned from a film print so it’s a little noisy and grainy but I think it fits in with Kensington’s old time feel.
