One of the deserted picnic areas in Centennial Park.

It’s over

Summer is over, and the row boats in Howard County’s Centennial park are out of the water.  Though the park was packed with joggers last week when I visited, some of the spaces looked like they were permanently abandoned.   I’m going to round out this week with some of those scenes.

Overturned

The underbelly of a paddle boat, one of the most arduous forms of transportation ever invented.  This one isn’t going anywhere until next spring.  (not that it would go far in the summer)

Ravens Fanta(sy) Camp

Thanks again to corresponding photographer, Bryan.  He was able to snap this picture from a local Shoppers Food Warehouse.  Figured it would be a good way for MDP to support the Ravens in against the Broncos this weekend.

MDP will be back on Tuesday after the holiday weekend.

FIRE

Somebody forgot to call Miss Utility before the started digging yesterday. At least that’s the rumor that I heard.

This fire, regardless of it’s cause, was being fed by a gas line that was exposed and damaged.  It caused roads to be closed and power to be taken offline near the site.  It happens to be near my office, which is unfortunately equipped with a generator. Which meant that I couldn’t take the day off and that this picture is the only good thing  to come of this situation.

Closed For the Season

This community pool in Columbia was shut down when I passed it the other day.  It seems as though it had been open and packed just a week ago.

Pikesville Military Reservation

These photos, courtesy of MDP correspondent, Bryan, are from the Pikesville Military Reservation, formerly known as and perhaps better known, as the Pikesville Armory.   The reservation is home to the Maryland Defense Force, of which Bryan is a proud member.

I generally try to give a bit of the history along with each photo, but in this case I’m keeping it light as we have a great post to come in the next month or so as a follow-up.

Tennis Courts

On Saturday while people were flooding out of the football game in College Park,  the sky had taken on a very interesting shade of yellow.  It could be the result of the weird weather patterns we’ve had lately.  Or it could be because of the massive stadium lights, but either way it made for a neat effect.

Dunes

Dunes from Assateague Island.  With the rain we’ve been getting lately, I thought that a quiet beach scene from just before a rainstorm would be nice.
