O’s Clock

Just a shot of the clock at the top of the scoreboard at Oriole Park.

Tree-Mendous

When I received my Maryland tax refund it came with a card advertising the tree-mendous Maryland program.  I had mentioned this program a long time ago in a past tree post. While the program covers many different areas, including allowing citizens to purchase young trees at reasonable prices to plant in their own spaces,  the card pictured above has a  form on the backside that you can fill to donate a tree to be planted in a Maryland public space.   I was going to donate a tree in the name of Maryland Daily Photo and post a picture of the certificate stating such, but the price tag was a bit much.  Perhaps I’ll dedicate the Tomato plant I’m about to put outside to Maryland Daily Photo.

Also: did you know that trees have their own state government website?  http://www.trees.maryland.gov/  You can even find a coupon for a tree of your own.

Bridge Out

The MDP faithful can probably name the historic waterway over which this broken bridge crosses.

Mother’s Day

Maryland Daily Photo took a different approach to Mother’s day and celebrated with a serious barbeque session.      This also presented another opportunity to MDP.  Every year I seem to post a picture about barbeque that really has nothing to do with Maryland other than the location of the grill.  Here’s the 2010 contribution.

Freight House

Next to the Gaithersburg MARC station, which has been converted into a coffee house, is the former freight station, which has been converted into a museum.

Volleyball

There are a few clues in this picture that betray the fact that this was not taken on an actual beach.   The square lamp in the foreground and the strip of concrete in the background may be hints that this is in the middle of Baltimore.   In fact, this is Rash Field, the flat stip of land between the harbor and federal hill park.    It’s been home to any number of odd things, from ice rinks to this volleyball court.

New and Old Line

The Maryland Line Monument in the background, and in detail below, was dedicated, though over 100 years after the conflict, to the Maryland Veterans of the Revolutionary war.  It sits between the Lyric Opera House and the B&O Mt. Royal Station, currently the home of a part of the Maryland Institute College of Art, which explains the foreground.

According to www.monumentcity.org, The statue atop the monument is a representation of Liberty. She holds the declaration of independence in her hand.

Domino Sugars

With all that time to kill on Saturday there were plenty of opportunities to check out the Baltimore skyline.  The Domino Sugar sign is one of those fixtures that has surpassed it’s original marketing intentions to become an icon.    It’s a remnant of the inner harbor’s industrial past and, unlike the rest of the currently functional parts of the harbor, it’s in plain sight of every tourist.   I’m happy that it’s still there and, though I can explain why, I almost feel like it’s a point of pride; as if it says, “hey, industry is sustained here.”

Kinetic Sculpture Race

MDP tried to bring you some pictures from Saturday’s Kinetic sculpture race in Baltimore.  Unfortunately the kinetics were moving a little slower than scheduled.   While there was plenty of good viewing opportunities in the morning or in the afternoon at Patterson park, MDP chose to camp at the finish line.  So, while it was nice to sit and take in the sites for two hours, this is the lone picture we have for you.   Lots of information and pictures on the web though: http://www.kineticbaltimore.com

Any Guesses?

What is this?  I’m sure some MDP readers will know right away while others may be wondering where this site took a wrong turn.  I guess a few people could fall under both categories.
