New and Old Line

The Maryland Line Monument in the background, and in detail below, was dedicated, though over 100 years after the conflict, to the Maryland Veterans of the Revolutionary war.  It sits between the Lyric Opera House and the B&O Mt. Royal Station, currently the home of a part of the Maryland Institute College of Art, which explains the foreground.

According to www.monumentcity.org, The statue atop the monument is a representation of Liberty. She holds the declaration of independence in her hand.
