Lockkeepers House

lockkeepers-housesmall.jpg

This is a picture of the lock keeper’s house at lock 24 of the C&O canal.  It’s called Riley’s lock in honor of it’s last keeper.    It is also located near a part of the river called Rowser’s Ford, where, during the civil war, 5000 confederate troops crossed the river, captured canal boats, and then drained the canal in order to disrupt supplies and communication between DC and the ederal troops to the north.

Pleasant Afternoon

fhstad2s.jpg

On the other side of Federal Hill Park from yesterday’s picture, I found this quiet scene of Marylanders out enjoying the afternoon by walking through the park or sitting down with their lunch.   What I most enjoyed about this picture is that this man chose to enjoy his lunch while facing westward towards the stadium, as opposed to the many people in the park who took a north facing seat to see  the city skyline.
