This is a picture of the lock keeper’s house at lock 24 of the C&O canal. It’s called Riley’s lock in honor of it’s last keeper. It is also located near a part of the river called Rowser’s Ford, where, during the civil war, 5000 confederate troops crossed the river, captured canal boats, and then drained the canal in order to disrupt supplies and communication between DC and the ederal troops to the north.
