This is Rock Creek Woods, a development in Montgomery County that is known for its architect, Charles Goodman. The neighborhood is unique in that all of the houses on its three streets retain the appearance they had when first built in the late 50′s – early 60′s. It is a clear product of community involvement and recognition from outside the community of the importance of keeping the neighborhood in tact.
The community was planned with heavy involvement from Goodman, right down to the trees. However, the cherries you see here are not the result of his work, but the work of early community members, who pleaded for the county to plant cherry trees along the streets of the community as it was being built. Today the trees line the streets, making these next two weeks the perfect time to be there.
