Lamp Post Contest: Name the City in Maryland

lamp-500x746.jpg

I like street lamps and, as I’ve been traveling for the website, I’ve taken a few photos of them as I’ve gone along.  In today’s contest, lets see who can tell me what Maryland town, city, or other governmental district this lamp comes from.

Due to the special nature of Monday’s “post,” we’ll answer the contest on Tuesday.

“I like street lamps” (I li-ke st-ree-t la-m-ps): I enjoy banging my head against street lamps during odd hours of the night at prestigious universities while hammer-timed. Ummm…my guess is College Park.

No more guesses? I’ll give a hint around 2:00 but you’ll get less points if you guess after the hint.

    Is it Laurel?

    Arbutus.

Someone told me that people from Arbutus are called Arbutians, which I thought was hilarious.

Chris – you would be correct that Arbutus natives do indeed call themselves Arbutians, pronouced “ar-bu-sh-en-s”. In other Arbutus related trivia, CCBC Catonsville is referred to as ‘UCLA – University of Catonsville Left of Arbutus’

    I still think it’s Laurel.

Hint: well I like Arbutus because I’ve been to many a train show at the fire hall there. However this is neither Arbutus nor Laurel nor CP nor Maryland City. Here is your first hint: this town is west of Baltimore.

I doubt that there has been a light in there for some time. The modern street lamp in the background probably serves that purpose these days. I think it is good that they have maintained and left the old ones instread of scrapping them as many towns have done.
